Thanks to everyone who attended our record-setting Patrons Ball! And yes, “Oh what a night!” Congratulations to Jack and Bernice Shell of Schertz, Texas, who won the 1977 Corvette! They left this morning to return to Texas with the Corvette in tow. Jack told his 16-year-old  grandson that he knew he’d purchased the winning ticket–and he did! Thanks to all who purchased tickets; rest assured our programs schedule is grateful!

Denver’s Hilary Smida led the way for the group’s wine-tasting, a quest for those perfect libations for Patrons Ball. Here are Hilary’s notes; let the mouthwatering begin . . .

Domaine Serene “Evenstad Reserve”, Willamette Valley, OR, Pinot Noir, 2006 $75: A medium to full-bodied wine with layers of complex red fruits, notes of cassis, raspberry, cedar and cloves, excellent integration of oak, tannin and acidity.  A delicious, beautiful wine. WS 92, RP 91

    Paul Hobbs, Napa Valley, CA, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2007 $90: An opaque purple colored blockbuster, offers notes of black currants, blackberries, subtle smoke and charcoal, it is deep, opulent and full bodied.  An elegant offering. WS 92, RP 93

Tikal “Jubilo”, Altos De Mendoza, Argentina, Cabernet Sauvignon/Malbec, 2007 $65: A beautiful saturated purple color with black currant, blackberry, and hints of espresso with aromas of pain grill, it is spicy and succulent. Wonderful selection at a great value. WS 92, RP 93

Alto Moncayo “Veraton”, Campo De Borja, Spain, Grenache, 2007 $45: This is a dense and layered, full flavored wine with hints of wild black cherry, black raspberry, and earth notes. This selection is well-balanced and an awesome value of exceptional quality. WS 89, RP 92

Orin Swift “The Prisoner”, Napa Valley, CA, Zinfandel Blend, 2008, $55: This has been described as a “big sexy fruit bomb” with notes of black, red, and blue fruits,  spice box and soft tannins.  Medium to full-bodied, a fun wine. WS 92, RP 90

Mer Soleil “Silver”, Santa Lucia Highlands, CA,  Chardonnay, 2006 $45: A rich fruity, un-oaked Chardonnay, honeyed with orange oil, lemon zest and tropical fruit. This is a crisp, lovely Chardonnay. Enjoy! WE 92

Merry Edwards, Russian River Valley, CA Sauvignon Blanc, 2008 $50: With notes of rich honeydew melon, lemon blossom and a hint of tropical fruit, this wine is generous and rich on the palate. Truly lovely. WS 93

Chateau Prieure-Lichine, Margaux, France, Bordeaux Blend,  2003$95: A medium to full bodied wine, low acidity, dark ruby/plumb color, perfume of licorice, spice box and cedar with hints of black cherries and currants. WS 92.

Chateau Carbonnieux, Pessac Leognan,France, Bordeaux Blend, 1998 $95: This light to medium bodied wine has benefited from over a decade of cellaring, with notes of  strawberry/cherry fruit  mixed with herbs and smoke. WS86
